Willka Wasi in Tawa Intiq Suyon
Willka Wasi is the Sacred House of Initiation into ancestral Inka traditions, the origin of which goes back to ancient times. In this Sacred Centre priests and priestesses were ordained and carefully prepared in the different levels of teachings.
Willka Wasi was run by Willka Amautha Willakoq Inka (Sacred Inka High Priest), a descendent of an ancient dynastic lineage of priests. His spiritual centre was located in Cuzco.
Willka Amautha Willakoq Inka was the guide, the initiator and the prophet of the Inka culture, the bearer of ancestral wisdom and the spokesman of the gods. He performed ceremonies and sacred rituals; he directed the ordination and organization of the priests, or Willka Runakuna, the wise men of Willka Wasi.
The Spiritual Inka Power
The formation and expansion of the great empire of Tawa Intiq Suyon (The Nation of the Four Suns) witnessed the remarkable history of the imposing Inka culture; the most important indigenous political-spiritual structure ever to have existed in South America.
In those times, there existed a harmonious equilibrium between the “political power” of the Inka, who was the highest political authority in the land, and the “spiritual power” represented by the Willka Amautha Willakoq Inka (The Sacred Inka High Priest).
The Inka and the Willka Amautha Willakoq Inka created two nations in one; the Political Nation and the Spiritual Nation. Both were united in a single purpose: to preserve the power of Mother Nature and the well-being of all its inhabitants. Therefore, the “spiritual power” became the advisor of the” political power” in order to maintain a balanced coexistence and conserve the connection with the gods.
For hundreds of years, the Inka Empire experienced this harmonious coexistence between political and spiritual power. However, with the arrival of the Spanish this balance was shattered by the violent imposition of a new political and religious order. This brought about the break-up of our spiritual and cultural tradition.
However, in spite of merciless persecution, we managed to maintain our spiritual tradition because the Willka Amautha Willakoq Inka was able to hide in the most inaccessible areas of the Andes for many years. He was secretly protected and his sacred ancestry and ancient lineage were preserved, together with his “pure” ancestral teachings.
